Documenting and sharing Salesforce flows is crucial for collaboration and training. However, exporting Salesforce flows as images isn’t as straightforward as it should be. Salesforce lacks a built-in export feature for flows, making it difficult to capture high-quality visuals of complex flows spanning multiple screens.

After extensive research and testing multiple tools, I’ve found the best browser extensions that make exporting Salesforce flows seamless and efficient without costing a penny.

Problem it Solves

• Lack of Native Export Options : Salesforce does not provide a direct way to export flows as images or PDFs.

• Difficulty Capturing Large Flows : Salesforce flows can be quite large, sometimes spanning multiple screens. Users often resort to taking multiple screenshots manually and stitching them together which is time-consuming and inefficient.

Best tools to export Salesforce Flows

1. Salesforce Inspector Reloaded

When it comes to exporting flows, Salesforce Inspector Reloaded allows users to add a scroll bar to the Flow Builder canvas. This is needed for the next tool to take screenshots across the canvas to capture entire flow.

Bonus Tip: For very large flows, you have to move the flow canvas so that you can view the entire flow using scroll bars. If you want to see a tutorial, let me know in comments.

2. Fireshot / Go Full Page

Fireshot and Go Full Page are powerful screen capture extensions that excels in capturing long, scrolling pages. On a click of a button it can capture an entire flow, even if it spans multiple screens. You can use either of these two extensions.

Notable features

• Seamless full-flow capture. No need for manual stitching of screenshots.

• The Flow builder components are automatically hidden and you get only the flow export.

• Multiple format options – JPG, PDF, clipboard, or direct email sharing.

• The export preserves high-resolution quality, ensuring clarity and readability without pixelation.

In the treasure hunt this week, I came across some interesting open source projects that people have built to learn Lightning Web components (LWC) in Salesforce. These projects are classic games built using LWC in Salesforce and hosted on Salesforce Experience cloud.

What is SweeperForce ?

SweeperForce is an open-source project developed by Steve Schrab. This project brings the classic Minesweeper game into Salesforce, demonstrating the versatility and power of LWCs. 🚀 LWC SOQL Builder [Web App]

This week I share another webapp which benefits anyone working with Salesforce irrespective of the role they play. LWC SOQL Builder as the name suggests, makes building and running SOQL in Salesforce incredibly easy.

Problem it Solves

Writing SOQL queries manually can be tedious and error-prone, especially for complex queries involving multiple fields, filters and relationships.

LWC SOQL Builder provides an intuitive interface for selecting objects, fields, parent relationships and subquery, making it easier for developers and administrators to construct queries without needing deep SOQL knowledge.

Notable features

• Point and Click User Interface: Enables you to add SOQL boilerplate, fields, parent relationships, subquery and run a query.

• Autocomplete : A feature that make you to complete field name. You can search by field label as well as by field name.

• PWA Support: LWC SOQL Builder can be installed as Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it like a normal desktop app.

• CSV Export: You can export the query result to a CSV file.

• Support for ignoring default namespace: You can run a SOQL without the namespace prefix of a managed package. So, you can copy and paste the SOQL into your Apex code as-is.

🚀 Prettier Apex [CLI App] [Web App]

This week I explored the most widely used Salesforce Apex formatter: prettier-plugin-apex.

Problem it Solves

Code formatting can often be a source of frustration in development teams, as maintaining a consistent style across multiple developers can be a daunting and time-consuming task. With each team member having their own coding preferences, ensuring uniformity throughout the codebase becomes increasingly difficult. This not only leads to inconsistencies but also wastes valuable time during code reviews, where team members must manually check for formatting issues, diverting attention away from more critical code quality concerns.

Apex Prettier Plugin comes to the rescue by automating the apex code formatting process, ensuring that code adheres to a consistent style without the need for manual intervention.

Notable features

• Built on top of jorje, Salesforce's own internal parser so it is able to format Apex code with a very high degree of accuracy.

• Can be integrated with Visual Studio Code IDE.

• Can format Anonymous Apex.

• Integrates with CI/CD pipeline setup to enforce coding style.

🚀 Brobench [Browser Extension]

This week I explored an unknown yet powerful tool for Salesforce. If you use browser extensions to elevate your Salesforce experience, I recommend to try out this extension. The extension is created by Datasert.

Problem it Solves

There are numerous tasks you do in Salesforce that may require lot of clicks, data analysis and hours of manual work. At times you would use a spreadsheet to help you accomplish a task such as comparing Salesforce record changes at different points in time.

Brobench browser extension has plenty of useful features for your day to day activities. One of my favorite features, that no other tool has, is to track changes on a Salesforce record in real time.

This feature queries and compares all field values of a Salesforce record every n seconds or on demand. This feature alone has boosted my efficiency when working on integrations and observing data changes as an end user uses the application in real time. Without this, I had to query and copy data to spreadsheet multiple times and use formulas to compare values.

Notable features

• Create Salesforce Package.xml manifest using a GUI

• Salesforce login manager

• View/Edit Records and its full details including hierarchy for any object

• Event Monitoring

• Search for Users, reset passwords, and do Log in As

• Query builder, including 5 levels of Child queries

• Execute APIs, Describe Schema, View Deployment Details, Search for Setup Audit, View Code Coverage, etc

🚀 Force.com Migration Tool Package Creator [Browser Extension]

This week I was amazed to discover a browser extension for Salesforce Workbench. It has been around for a long time but no one talked about it. For this reason I started this newsletter to share such unexplored and useful tools.

If you use Salesforce Workbench, the Force.com Migration Tool Package Creator extension will make you more productive. The extension is created by Elie Perez.

Problem it Solves

Salesforce Workbench does not support searching of Metadata types and Components. The only option is to select the Metadata type, say ListView from a large dropdown and then expand the tree to find the specific Component, here it is the List View that you are looking for.

Numerous times you have used workbench to retrieve and deploy components. This requires a Package.xml Manifest file. Since Workbench does not have the feature to create the Salesforce Package.xml Manifest, you either create it manually or use another tool, which makes it counterproductive.

The Force.com Migration Tool Package Creator extension fills these gaps.

Notable features

• Adds a search box to search Metadata Types on the Metadata Types and Components page.

• Adds a search box to search Metadata components.

• Create and export Package.xml on the fly by selecting components.

  

• Export Object field details such as Label, API Name, Type and Picklist Values on the Standard & Custom Objects page.

  

Bonus Tip

You can import a Package.xml file to the extension and it will auto select the Metadata components.

🚀 Salesforce Speedy Debugger [Browser Extension]

This week I found an amazing browser extension for working with Salesforce trace flags and debug logs.

Problem it Solves

Salesforce standard way to setup a trace flag needs many clicks. The context switching from the debug log page makes me go mad every time I do it. Checking for active trace flags seems to be a data analysis journey for me. Searching debug logs for a specific string or reading a debug log takes hours. I can go on and on with the challenges a developer faces every day.

Salesforce Speedy Debugger extension has a ton of features to solve these pain points.

Notable features

• 1 button click to add trace flag for current user with a count down timer for the active trace flags.

• 1 click renew of of expired trace flags.

• Easy filtering of trace flags based on Active, Expired and Future.

• Filter debug logs based on user.

• Facilitates searching strings within the debug log body and downloading debug logs in Excel format.

• Presenting the debug log in color coded texts and sub tabs for easy reading and analysis.

Bonus Tip

The extension counts the DMLs and SOQLs in the debug logs that can be very useful in analysis.

🚀 Salesforce Custom Metadata Analyzer [CLI App]

This week I explored a CLI app built using python that analyzes Salesforce Custom Metadata Type. It retrieves metadata information, generates queries, executes them, and outputs field statistics either to a CSV file or as a Markdown table.

Problem it Solves

Reviewing each Custom Metadata Type to calculate Custom Metadata Type Usage through the UI is exhausting. Even your favorite editor or IDE does not provide a better way. This app automates this process and generates an insightful report that you can action upon.

Notable features

• Creates a comprehensive overview of Salesforce Custom Metadata Types.

• Identifies which metadata types are consuming the most storage.

• Count the records associated with each metadata type.

• Analyzes the field lengths.

• Generates report in CSV, Markdown Table or as Console Output

Sample Report

In this example, you can quickly see that all fields in this CMDT are oversized. You can easily identify the shortest and longest entries for specific fields in the Custom Metadata Type, as well as the current field lengths. Additionally, the record count for each Custom Metadata Type is provided. The last column, Type Info, indicates whether the field is a lookup relationship or not.
